    SAVE WOMEN SAVE GIRL CHILD

    by anita19f (07/27/2008 - 06:25)

"Worst of all, violence against women and girls continues unabated in every continent, country and culture. It takes a devastating toll on women’s lives, on their families and on society as a whole. Most societies prohibit such violence -- yet the reality is that, too often, it is covered up or tacitly condoned." (UN SECRETARY-GENERAL in International Women’s Day 2007 Message.)

My views: Society should be woken up at this stage & the motto "save women, save girl child" should be propagated worldwide.

    SINS

    by anita19f (07/04/2008 - 03:09)

(It is a story yet to be happened in a village in Gujrat in the year 2040.)

Rahul was still not sleeping; he was waiting for Urmila to come to him. But Rudra, his elder brother still sharing his love with her.

Even before 25 years, it was considered as sin, Rahul read it, but now it is the way of living. Yes, in the 20th century, nobody even think about it, but the medical discovery created all imbalances. When the sex verification of the foetus came to exist in the last part of 20th century, nobody thought it would create such a problem to the society that the sanctity of the body of females would be at stake.

Rahul & Rudra had to marry the same girl last year as there was crisis of girls in their village. The ratio of female-male comes down to 30:70 in their village, therefore, almost 3 people have to share one female. Therefore, the tradition of marriage 1 by 1 has changed in their village. This is the result of elective abortion of female foetus from the end of 20th century in their village. Their generation has to face this. Now 1 by 1 marriage is very rare in their village. Rahul & Rudra is lucky that they could marry a girl in 2 by 1 system. Some poor families even have to go for 4 by 1 system, i.e., to marry 1 girl by 4 males.

The age difference between Rahul & Rudra was only 2 years; they are farmer, their other family member is only their mother, father is expired long back. Most of the families of the village are very poor; they are also poor. They have only two rooms, mother sleeps at the small room, Rahul & Rudra sleep in the same room in two different beds nearby. Urmila have to share her love to both of them one by one. She feels lucky that she has to not share with 3 or 4 males as is happening to some other families.

Rahul made a small sound from his bed indicating he requires her soon, as usual he does when a little late happens Rudra was not willing to leave her, as his peak moment was yet to achieve. But getting indication from Rahul he left Urmila to Rahul, “You go there, but tomorrow I would share with u much more than today”, then making the voice little louder he told his brother, “Rahul, do carefully, remember in her womb our baby is sleeping.”

She came to Rahul’s bed. Rahul could understand she is fully hungry, as Rudra did not achieve the peak moment. It is his duty now to make her satisfied. Rahul is physically strong than his elder brother. He took only a few minutes to satisfy her fully. At a time she became fully satisfied, exhausted too, her hot body came down to calm & cool.

Morning first woke up their middle aged mother. After bathing she worshipped God.  Then only Urmila got up. She quickly went to bath & then came to her mother-in-law at kitchen to help her. As usual, she was wearing a torn out petticoat & an old bra, which could hardly cover her private parts, but privacy is not a prime matter to the members of the family, all know each other fully.

“Oh all u came yesterday night, I couldn’t ask u anything then, I fell in sleep”, the mother told.

“What the doctor said? Is it male or female.” the mother repeated.
“Female maa, she ascertained us.” Urmila replied.
“What are u thinking now. Are u going to elective abortion?”
“No, none of us thinking so, we went there not to check the gender of the foetus, but to check the condition of the baby inside…”
“Oh, that’s ok, but u know what happen to a female in later part of life, our days were different, then one married to one, love by one is necessary & it fulfilled our requirement, but now female have to entertain 2 or 3 or even more, I know how much u have to suffer even with 2 only.”
“No maa, ur both sons are very good, very gentle, they nicely take care of me, if one gives more, other control himself for that day,…I don’t know whose progeny I m carrying, Rahul or Rudra, but maa, both want the child to come, whether it is girl or boy, no matter.”
“Nice, ok, but what the doctor said about the condition of the baby inside?”
“She checked my whole body, then she told – it is ok, the foetus condition is very strong, it is around 6 months older now.”
“It looks like that only, from my experience itself I can tell u, now please come nearer, I want to love & kiss my grand baby inside.”, sitting on the dining chair, the mom asked Urmila.
Urmila came near to her mother-in-law, shown her belly to her. Her mother-in-law unlaced her petticoat, dropped a little & kissed her raising belly, then put her ears to here the baby’s sound, “O’ my grand daughter, what u r doing there, when u wd come out, r u getting food regularly or not, r u smiling there, do u have any problem, please tell me.”
Urmila & her mother-in-law both laughed out. “She is very naughty, not telling anything now”, her mother-in-law told jokingly.
In the meantime, Rudra & Rahul, after bath came to the dinning room for their breakfast.
Urmila brought breakfast for all 4 & all sat together to take breakfasts.

Their mother told, “Sometimes I feel bad that I could not give u one wife to each, then we could have sat together all 5.”

“No, no maa, it is not ur fault, it was fault of thoughts of our previous generation, may be previous to previous. It was that society’s fault, not your fault.”

“Yes, when I married in 2017, my mother-in-law told me then - u have come, that is well, but don’t bring another female to this house. I could understand what she meant. As soon as I became pregnant, they took me to a doctor, after all scanning, doctor rep orted female foetus, I was forcibly gone to elective abortion. Then u two came one by one. It became tradition then - Nobody wanted female progeny. Many did it because she came as their first child, that’s why u r getting the 30% female here now, otherwise it would have become a society of males only. & then what could have happened to next generation. I m thankful to all of u that u r not mulling elective abortion even after knowing that ur forthcoming baby would be a daughter.”

“Yes maa”, Rahul told, “we are not going any elective abortion, never, people are forgetting the beauty of girl when they have to give birth, they remember only while to do love or marriage, but how they would get them then if they do female infanticide in the form of elective abortion? We would never do it, never.”

Tears came out from the eyes of her mother, her past was reeling on her mind just like a cinema.

What would have been happened if her daughter could have come to the earth?

How beautiful she could have been?

Oh, why her that generation was killing the female foetus secretly?

“Don’t weep maa”, Urmila told her mother-in-law, that society is not now maa, now our society is changing, they are not mulling elective abortion, they are thinking to balance the society, maa, u should happy with this society, don’t go to past, maa.”

Their mother wanted her to be near to her. Urmila came close to her. She again touched her belly very smoothly, “O’ my grand daughter, r u listening it? U would come to a new world, where u would get your proper position, proper dignity.”

Tears came out to Urmila & her two sons too.

    PHOOLWALI

    by anita19f (06/23/2008 - 03:08)

    PHOOLWALI (THE SELLER OF FLOWERS)

Champa told her daughter Ankita, “Today I m quite ill, please u go alone to the town.”Ankita took the bucket of flowers & went to the town.

“Flower, flower”, she had gone on screaming while going through the streets & bylanes of the town.

This is not the first time she had come to the town with the bucket of flowers in her head but then always mother was with her. Now mother is having fever from yesterday & there is no money at home to buy medicine & food. Now she has to sell these flowers & then only she could buy medicine for her mother & food for her little family, that is, she & her mother & younger sister.

There were some fixed customers who buy their flowers; therefore it was not difficult to sale at least 50% of her flowers. Within 1 hr. she sold 50% of it, but how she wd sale the rest?

Her mother was clever; she sold flowers to some other family whom she knew by somehow. Some on sympathy also took her flowers. Some had no belief in gods & goddesses or worships but they bought to please her in her insistence. But what Ankita wd do now alone? She knows very few of this town, & she has sold them already her flowers. Now what to do with this rest half? She sat below a big banyan tree, keeping her flower basket in front, to take a little rest.

Her mother told her before sending to market, “please don’t delay, come soon, we r not taking anything, there is not a single pie in the house to buy a small bread even”

But if she goes like this, only selling half of flowers, what her mother wd say? She must sell this anyhow.

A black sedan car stopped before her; a middle aged gentleman wearing goggles came out from the driver seat of the car,

“Oh nice, these are so beautiful flower, I like it, I would give them in Shiv temple, how much u r telling?” He asked.

“Rs. 20/- per bouquet” Ankita told.

“Nice I wd take all. How many r there?”

    “20”, she told shortly.

“Means Rs. 400 u r telling, nice, I wd pay Rs. 500, ok?” He apprised, “But only one condition, u wd have to go there with me, to help me to offer the flowers to temple.”

    “Where it is?”

From here only 3 miles away, don’t worry, I wd bring back u by my car & drop in ur home.”

Ankita counted the time, it might be taken an hour to return & then she could reach her house with a good amount of money.

She agreed with the gentleman. She placed her basket back of the sedan car & sat in the back seat of the car.

The luxury car moved gently for some minutes through the town, and then it was speeded up, within a few minutes it left the masses & now started moving through a lonesome road.

Ankita was first looking at the trees running back of the car, then the paddy fields, then the bamboos & jungles & blue hills, so nice, so beautiful, her imagination started flying.

Suddenly the car started going through a very deserted route & after going a little it stopped.

    “What happen sir?”

    “I m feeling some needs, I m thirsty, I m hungry, Ankita.” He told.

“What u wd get in this remote place?”

“I wd get everything here.” He clicked a switch, his own sit became flat, he came to the back seat, clicked another switch, the back seat also became flat & it became like a small bed.

He gripped Ankita’s hand & laid her in the flattened seat, “U have everything Anku, U can give me everything.” He came over her.

Ankita felt helpless. She couldn’t know what to do in such a moment.

She trembled in fear, tried to scream but couldn’t. “No, this is a soundproof car interior Anku, ur scream wd not go out, moreover we r long away from the people’s inhabitation.” Biting her cheeks & lips he whispered. Ankita became tired by protesting him in vain.

Ultimately Ankita surrendered herself to that cheater.

After around half an hour he left her in the back seat almost unconscious. He also took a rest for a while. After sometime while she regained her senses, she started weeping. The gentleman gave her a bottle of drinking water to take as well as wash the rubbishes.

Walking a little away, Ankita refreshed herself.

Ankita could understand that going to temple was a lie; she didn’t ask a single word about that while he drove back the car towards the town.

“Where is ur house u wd show me, I wd drop near that.”

He drove the car as per her instruction. Ankita dropped a little bit away from her house. He gave her the basket emptying the flowers in the car & a note of Rs. 500/-; he told, “The flowers I wd offer in the evening; I m now too tired, moreover I want to refresh myself too…..please bring flowers tomorrow also, I wd buy again, I need a lot flowers”

Looking her daughter coming back soon with the empty basket, Champa felt happy. She was on the corridor taking the sunrays.

“Nice u could sell all the flowers so soon.”

Ankita gave all the money she had earned by selling the flowers. Champa counted it was more than expected, she pleased a lot.

It is a slum area where they live; Champa gave some money to Nandita, the younger sister of Ankita, to take some bread & rice from the nearest shop. In the meantime, Ankita went to the nearest tube well & took a bath at open place; she is a grown up girl at 15, her sister is 13, but in this sum, everybody bathes openly with a small clothes in the body, age not a barrier here, nor the gender.

After the bath, Ankita along with her mother & Nandita took the bread with the tea; then it was around 12 noon, but they took their breakfast then only. It was not abnormal for the people of the slum. Then Ankita took her mother to the civil hospital, the government doctor gave a long prescription, but Ankita bought only 2 of them asking the Pharmacist, which r the more important.

Already the regular hawker gave them the flower bouquets for the next day & took the money for that. Today they could take good meal both at the day time & night, as the gentleman had given Ankita Rs. 100/- extra. Ankita didn’t tell a single word about what happened with the gentleman to anybody.

Mother became too weak next day too; she told Ankita to go with the basket of the flowers to the town. Similar case happened to that day also. Ankita thought she wd not follow the request of the gentleman, as she was feeling tremendous pain after his misdeeds on her, which she very carefully kept hiding from the others. But as time passed, she got in problem of selling the half of the flowers in the basket like the previous day. Time was passing quick & she started feeling helpless. Ultimately she again came near the tree, the car was standing already as it was a delay from the previous day from Ankita’s end.

The same things happened as in the previous day. Same lonesome road, same forceful enjoyment taking advantage of her helpless condition; but today without the lie of offering the flowers to temple. But he gave her same money like yesterday & also took the flowers in the car.

Her mother though improved after taking the medicines couldn’t go to sell flowers for another 5 days. Moreover, she was glad to see that Ankita was bringing more money than she did. Each day Ankita had to give enjoyment to the gentleman to take the money but she didn’t bare the fact to anybody. While her mother asked where u sell the rest flowers she told lie that she is selling them to many rich people in the road.

After 7th day, her mother improved & started her work, letting Ankita & Nandita go to the newly started primary school for teenagers of the slum. The school had no fees & as there were no young children, the teenagers didn’t feel shy to go there.

    The days were passed happily.

After around 4 months later or so Ankita one day felt uncomfortable at night, she was about to do vomiting. Her mother put water in her head, & brought to the bed.

In the bed, her mother asked her openly, if somebody had done anything with her.

Ankita told about those seven days, about how she was caught by the gentleman & forcefully fulfilled his thirsts & needs.

    Ankita’s mother could understand immediately.

She told, “Ankita, do u know who was the gentleman?”

    Ankita didn’t ask his name.

She told, “No mom, I didn’t ask his name, I called him Sir, I didn’t know that that could create me some problem sometime.”

“Yes Anku, u r in problem, u r going to be a mother.”

“Mom what u r telling? What our neighbours wd tell? Oh my God, what wd happen now.”

Mom moved her hand on Ankita’s head, “Oh, nothing wd happen my girl, I m with u, I m ur mother, hv u seen ur father? Or Nandita’s father?”

    “No mom.”

“But without father can u come to this world? No, u can’t. U must hv some father, but who u don’t know, I also don’t know, coz they use us as a material, one fulfil his needs & leave us for others, the next one after using leave it to others, then the process continues, they hide themselves by false name, false introduction, even if u had asked the gentleman’s name, he would not tell u his actual name & introduction. They are fraud, cheater. But we shouldn’t feel ourselves faulty for them; we should win as we r not doing any sin. With this ideology I gave birth to both of u & brought up u too. You wd too have to win like me. Progeny is biggest gift from God, u must have to give them birth & also bring them up.”

Ankita felt a big peace around her.

She closed her eyes with new dreams & hopes.

WHY WOMEN SHOULD RULE THE WORLD

    by anita19f (06/21/2008 - 09:41)

The book Why Women Should Rule the World by Dee Dee Myers, the first woman chosen for the job of press secretary to the President, has once again brought to the fore gender-related issues. The reviews of her book as available on Amazon.com distinctly acknowledge the positive role women can play in changing the environment socially and politically. The book has three distinct parts: Why women don’t rule the world; why women should rule the world; and how women can rule the world. The idea is not to replace men but to work in equal partnership, deriving the benefit of female perspective and judgment. At present women account for only 17 per cent in national parliaments. How can policymakers address all problems with such a low representation, Myers argues.

In a refreshing new approach to gender equality, Myers puts forth a logical assertion, based on biological differences, that women provide an enormous and too often untapped source of talent and bring a different perspective. By nature, motherhood bestows upon them the ability to think of someone else before themselves. Yet another expertise a woman brings to the table is practicality. The underlying thread of the book as sifted from the reviews is not fanatic feminism, but a gentle nudge to acknowledge the usefulness of the skills developed through motherhood, particularly diplomacy, team playing and flexibility. Replete with real-life examples and scientific evidence to support her theory that when women are involved, whatever the endeavour, everyone benefits, the author makes a spirited case “that ‘women power’ is the most neglected political recourse in our arid times,” to quote Douglas Brinkley of The New York Times.

If this is the main thrust of a book from a person steeped in western tradition, with its emphasis on independence and freedom rather than dependence and support, then one can imagine the impact that conservative orientalists can make in transforming the society if only given authority with responsibility.

    Personal Experience

Being the ‘first’ for a woman in any field is quite a challenge. Myers confides that lack of family-friendly policy in corporations was an obstacle. She also blames women for undermining themselves, for not taking credit for their accomplishments. I could realise the import of these observations having been a ‘first’ in a number of positions in Indian Railways. I donned the mantle of first lady Divisional Railway Manager, an executive post with uncertain timings and tremendous challenges. The post was acknowledged to be a male bastion and demanding. The work called for scrupulous planning, continuous monitoring and skilful coordination to ensure normal operations, safety, cordial industrial relations and result-oriented marketing efforts. These are managerial attributes which can be developed and successfully practised by any educated and experienced person, irrespective of gender.

What differentiated my approach was in matters which are closely related to, but not directly involved in, running the division. When divisions were ordered to launch a drive against drunken driving in the wake of a major accident with heavy casualties, I deemed it necessary to involve the family members of the loco crew by organising seminars at important railway colonies with the participation of women in large numbers. While the affected employees came for treatment to railway hospitals, counselling by medical experts and psychologists was arranged. Spreading awareness regarding the evils of drinking through distribution of vernacular booklets was another device to bring about a transformation in the attitude of employees.

To meet the educational needs of the children of railway employees, the school run by women’s organisation was upgraded. A crèche for the benefit of working women — a long-pending need of Railway employees — was also opened.

Communication is a vital requirement for the smooth and effective running of any organisation. Apart from customary messages during New Year and Railway Week celebrations, a quarterly in-house magazine was published to help employees share information. When the division received the Runner-up shield for overall efficiency there was visible happiness among the employees and their families.

My personal experience showed that where there is will and enthusiasm, there are millions ways to perform.

    Encouraging developments

While greater representation of women in politics may be a distant dream, the prospect of increasing the numbers in service, science and academia appears brighter with the recommendations of the VI Pay Commission. It acknowledges the dual responsibilities of work and family borne by working women and the increasing difficulties in balancing them. Women constitute 7.53 per cent of the Central Government workforce. The Commission has recommended the concept of staggered working hours and child-care leave for two years, besides extending maternity leave to 180 days. It has also recommended setting up of day-care centres/crèches in offices or major residential mandatory. The Government has also been asked to remedy the paucity of residential accommodation for single working women by either building or leasing working women’s hostels. Whether these measures provide the much-needed fillip to increase the percentage of women employees needs to be seen.

Banking sector used to attract a large number of women employees. But with a very stringent transfer policy, coupled with voluntary retirement scheme, the sector sadly saw a large-scale exodus of women in the last decade. At present IT-related jobs are in great demand with the magical figure of one million having been reached in 2004-05. The industry has traditionally been friendly to women, with leading companies recruiting nearly an equal number of women (42 per cent) at the entry level. But are the company policies pro-women to ensure growth and leadership development so that women occupy top positions?

    Top Jobs

A recent study by Nasscom and IIM-Ahmedabad shows that less than 10 per cent of top managers in the sector are women, while they constituted 24 per cent of the total workforce. Nasscom expects this figure to go up to 30-45 per cent by 2010. The study has revealed that 50 per cent of women in middle-level felt that there were no targeted leadership development programmes for women. There was also large-scale attrition due to family pressures, long working hours and frequent travel requirements and shifting priorities due to mid-life adjustments. The study recommends best practices such as providing sabbaticals, option for day shifts and special focus on staffing team with women to ensure fair play and justice. The study has thrown up the need for a suitable legislation covering both public and private sector to ensure career growth and adequate representation for women.

Can women sustain their goal and continue their contribution?

    Soft skills

The book Why Women Should Rule the World has shown that the world can be better off if appropriate recognition is accorded to soft skills, which motherhood demands and nurtures. Do these qualities, once considered sterling, hold water even today? In the present-day world of ruthless competition and rat race it may seem out of focus to eulogise these virtues or treat these as essential ingredients for a successful career or achievement.

Propelled by self-interest, and fuelled by ambition, younger generation is on the quest for greater material comforts and may tend to reject the theory. But I had an answer for this when, at a function organised in Chennai recently to salute the mothers of celebrity sons/daughters, mothers received encomiums for their contribution! If women are empowered and allowed to have a say, a lot of things would be better. Not perfect but better. The world would be better off with a more representative government, a stronger economy and a healthier and more sustainable planet. Finally we would have stronger families.

This seems to be the message of the book Why Women Should Rule the World and many reviewers have found the book a must-read for both women and men!

    THE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN

    by anita19f (06/18/2008 - 02:22)

    The beautiful women
    When walks through the city
The city wakes up in joy.
    The road feels proud;
    The passersby stopped
    To look at them.

    The auto-rickshaws &
    The city buses
    Like to have them
    As their passengers.

    The beautiful women

    Like to go to

    Cinema hall &

    Shopping.

    They like to take
    Cold drinks in restaurants.
    They like freedom

    & love.

    They don’t like flirting

    & winking.

    In the evening

When they left out the road,

    The city drowned in sorrow

    & fall asleep.

    From Monday to Saturday

At nine they pass the road

    When they pass,

    The passersby stunned;

    The beauty &

    Aroma of their breath

    Makes the wind cool.

    Their smiles & whispers

Strikes the branches of big trees

& the big bell of the school

    Eagerly wait for them.

    From here to school

One has to walk 2 miles

    But the high school girls

    Always do it

    With beautiful smiles.

    IVY GOT HER MAN

    by anita19f (06/14/2008 - 10:49)

Shankhaneel got the phone from Atul at around 10 at night, Atul’s voice was trembling, “Sir my son is serious, please help me.”

“No problem, don’t lose courage, I m coming to u.”

Without losing a single minute Shankhaneel jumped into his car & rushed to Atul’s house.

Atul, with his neighbours, already, pulled his 2 yr old son into his car & started moving to hospital; looking at Shankhaneel’s car coming he moved his hand indicating he is going to hospital now.

Shankhaneel backed & dashed to the hospital.

He found Shankhaneel pulling his son to Cabin No. 8 along with her wife & 2 neighbours. The emergency doctor & nurses rushed to the cabin. Shankhaneel waited out of the cabin without disturbing the doctor & nurses. Doctor injected a saline immediately to the boy & nurses started rubbing the body with some lotion.

Atul came out. Fear was spreading in his face. The boy was still crying. Shankhaneel consoled Atul that nothing would happen to the boy. After around half an hour the doctor & nurses came out; Atul was too serious.

“Hope everything would go normal”, without detailing anything the doctor remarked.

Atul got some relief. Doctor gave a prescription to bring some medicines immediately. Atul didn’t bring anything with him while he rushed to hospital from home. Shankhaneel told, “don’t worry, u shouldn’t go, I wd bring it, u may require here at any time.” Shankhaneel also told Atul’s neighbours to go as it is already crossed 11 pm. “We wd be able to take care of the boy, u may go, if u want.” The neighbours had gone back.

While coming back nobody was in the corridor, he entered the room slowly. Atul was standing beside the bed, while his wife was rubbing the hairs of the boy.

The whole room was full of silence. Seriousness persists in the faces & eyes of parents. Shankhaneel gave the packet of medicines to Atul. Some moment passed in silence, Shankhaneel was looking at the boy, so beautiful, silently sleeping & her beautiful mother was rubbing her hair. The beautiful scene for a moment led him to a different world, but soon he came back to his own & came out of the room. Atul after some conversation with his wife came out & told that some clothes for the son & his wife r required & he wd bring them from his house.

Shankhaneel told, “U may be required any time here, if u allow me I can bring some ur reqirement from my home itself.”

Atul told, “No, no, those clothes u don’t have, u r a bachelor & those r requirement for woman & a child, if at all u wanna help me u can go my home & bring them.”

“How I wd find them, & it is no good to give ur key to me to enter ur house anyway.”

“No, no, I m not telling that, my house is not locked, my sister in law is there, she wd give everything we want, I wd ring from here & she wd make all arrangement there.”

Shankhaneel got the point, still doubt was in his mind, “How ur law wd know me? An unknown person? How she wd open the door?”

“She wd know by asking u some questions on us, if she feels required.”

Shankhaneel took decision fast, he wd bring & help Atul. Atul is his junior. He is Atul’s boss. A junior when asks help from his boss it is more difficult to deny. And he liked Atul as he is a good worker. And at this critical hour it is inhumanic to refuse anything.

He came to his house. He knocked the door. Atul’s sister-in-law opened the door & told to come in & sit inside. She started first, “I am just packing the clothes, it wd take another five minutes, please wait.” She went inside but Shankhaneel couldn’t remove his sight from her till she gone out. She was so beautiful with a stout body structure. What her name he didn’t know, nor she knew him. (Atul may have told his name, but she still has not asked.)

After a moment she came with a package, “Take this, here their clothes r, & take this water bottle, & this is a flask with black tea.”

“Oh thanks” while picking one by one from her suddenly the flask is about to fall, but both picked it at the binding ribbon of it, while doing so, Shankhaneel hand just came up on her hand, he felt the smoothness & warmth of that beautiful hand. Immediately he removed the hand. “Sorry” he told with shy.

“Ok, ok, no problem” she smiled a little.

Shankhaneel stood up to go to hospital. She told “I wanna to go there, I wanna see my cousin & sister, I hv already told my brother-in-law, if u don’t mind can u take me with u?”

It can’t be denied. Even for courtesy sake he wd have to take her there.

He took her, she sat beside him. The night was so deep, & it is around 10 minutes way for the hospital. Shankhaneel is bachelor, he felt shy that a beautiful girl of age around 21 sitting near her. In front only the road & darkness.

“U don’t fear of me? I m a male & bachelor.” he asked slowly, his shyness was clear in his face.

Without rep lying that she asked, “Do u fear of me? I m a girl aged 21 yr & unmarried, I can jump on u at any time.”

Shankhaneel laughed out at her fun.

“But I don’t know even ur name, can I know it.”

    “Yes I m Ivy, & I know u, u r Shankhaneel, my brother in law told me.”

They have a lot of talks within this 8 to 10 minutes of route. While they reached the hospital, they forgot that they were unknown to each other even an hour ago.

Atul & his wife became very happy by getting all the things they required there. Ivy rubbed her hand smoothly above the hairs of the boy, who was sleeping silently & peacefully.

Once the doctor & nurse again checked the boy & found ok. Doctor told Atul, “Not to worry anything, medicine is working, the boy is improving.”  Then Doctor & nurses left away. Shankhaneel felt he should go now, it is 12-30 night. He told his wishes to Atul.

Atul was grateful to him, he told, “Ok I m so thankful, u can go now.”

But Atul’s wife wanted to tell something but hesitated. She told Atul taking him aside abt the problem.

Atul told Shankhaneel, “Sir, I hv only one request, here only one small bed is here for attendant, myself & my wife can somehow stay here at night, but Ivy can’t, if u don’t mind…”

“Oh no problem, I got u, I wd give lift her to ur house, no problem.”

“But” Atul’s wife hesitated but told at last, “U know the situation of the township, mainly of our colony, & she is 21 yr old, u know what I mean, if u stay there only for tonight at our house it would be a great help to us.”

Shankhaneel, though feel not good, but in courtesy told, “No, no problem madam, it is ok, moreover ur house is nearer to hospital than mine, we could bring anything u need in night easily.”

The outside was heavy rain. Shankhaneel drove her car slowly to Atul’s house, beside him Ivy was sitting, without any fear, any hesitation, She was talking abt their family just like an old friend of Shankhaneel.

While they reached Atul’s house, heavy rain was still there, they rushed through the rain, both of them wetted heavily. While Ivy was opening the room, Shankhaneel had seen the beauty of her wet body momentarily but immediately removed his sight to other angle. He shouldn’t do that.

They entered into the room. Giving some night dresses to Shankhaneel, Ivy told, that wd be ur room, & that bed; & I wd sleep in that room.” , told showing another room.

Shankhaneel entered in his room & changed his dress, he thought it is courtesy to tell a “good night” to Ivy.

He just opened the door, but Ivy was changing her dresses & he felt odd looking her like that. He immediately closed the door.

He locked his room & came to bed, but immediately the door got knocked,

“Why u came out from my room, Don’t u feel any courtesy to tell “good night” to me.” Shankhaneel felt bad, why she didn’t understand, how he can say he felt shy to see her while changing her dress.

“Then why u lock ur room? If something happens, & we require to go to hospital, how can I wake u up easily.” Ivy impatiently asked.

Shankhaneel was felt defeated by this girl. Shankhaneel told, “Sorry, ok, I wd keep it unlocked, good night.” He put off the light & slept out. The room kept unlocked.

Though Shankhaneel doubted something odd may be happened to him, but actually nothing happened & he had a deep sleep. While he got up, Ivy was still in bed. Through the gap of the door of her room, his eyes goes to the bed, Ivy was sleeping with a nighty, she looked more beautiful than before. He immediately removed his sight from her. “No no it is bad”, he rep eated himself in his mind.

He entered the bathroom for refreshing himself. While he came out he found Ivy was talking in mobile to her sister at hospital. “Ok, ok Shankhaneel also got up, he is in bathroom now,….., disturbance, what disturbance, u r so naughty Ba (she called her sister as Ba), r u thinking me such a girl, I don’t give any disturbance to anybody,…. .., & what about baba, is he still sleeping, what we have to take for him?...ok, ok, I hv noted, ok we r coming soon there.”

Shankhaneel came near to her, “Good morning.”

“Good morning, did u feel any difficulty in sleeping.”

“No, no, it was a great sleep.”

“& it was a great night for me” being thoughtful she told.

    “Why?” Shankhaneel asked.

“Coz for the first time I am with a guy at night in a house alone.”

“Yes it was wrong, people may say something odd.” Shankhaneel told.

“Why? We hv not done anything wrong! We slept like brother & sister & that is too in 2 different rooms…ok leave that, I m coming from bath, we hv to go to hospital for their help soon.”

    Ivy went to her bathroom.

The building of the house is a small flat type two storey house; each storey comprises of 2 houses, total being 4 parts. In 1st floor east house is Atul’s house. Though the relation with the family of the next door house at 1st floor is soso with Atul’s family, other two family at ground floor never tolerate them. They wanna find fault with that family. Shankhaneel is chief manager of the plant, by which he is well known to all of the township, including these families. Moreover, even at the age of 40 he is still not married. This background is important coz it changes the whole life of Shankhaneel within a few minutes.

Ivy made ready quickly. She p rep ared breakfast for them as well as for those in hospital too. With a simple kurta-pyzama she came out with Shankhaneel. While Shankhaneel & Ivy was coming to his car, parked by the road, the insulting funs created with them by the ground floor neighbours came to their ears clearly,

    - “Oh today something is wrong, a different pair came out from that house!!”

    - “Two birds! That they married or not?”

    - “No, no, no, both r singles but stayed together yesterday. What they did the whole night there?”

    - “What they wd do? Everybody knows, hi hi hi” a woman laughed.

    - “Being manager, bachelor, people do such things!! Chi chi” The other woman added

    - “& what will be for her”

    - “She wd be pregnant & give birth to a Karna soon, ha, ha, ha” the male member added.

Shankhaneel was red in angry, but Ivy told “Please don’t hear them, we have to do fast.”

Shankhaneel drove fast angrily. Ivy was looking out thinking something. Tears of sorrows & shame rolled out from her eyes.

Shankhaneel stopped the car at a lonely side of the road. He brought out his handkerchief & soaked out her tears, “Why u r weeping, u r not doing any sin.”

“No, not for that, I don’t fear them, I don’t care their insults, but they wd tell it to everybody, I m not thinking of myself, I m thinking of u Shankhaneel. U have respects in the society, u r in an honourable position, this wd harm ur position. I should think beforehand & tell u to go yesterday; I could stay alone if I dared to stay.”

    - “Ivy, don’t say so, I m not thinking myself anything more than anybody, they r social culprits, with face cover of civilians in the society. I m not thinking of me, I m thinking of u only, Ivy. U may be termed as a bad girl & they wd make ur life miserable. I m also thinking of Atul & his family, they may bring social boycotting against them showing this incident. I must do something” Shankhaneel didn’t say what he wd do.

Ivy was still weeping. She was almost unstable. Shankhaneel pulled her to his breast & put kisses in her cheeks & lips, as if he was consoling a little girl. Ivy stopped her weeping.

But time was moving fast, Shankhaneel started his car again.

A few minutes later they reached the hospital. While Shankhaneel & Ivy entered the cabin, it was totally a different environment than night. The boy had got up & was smiling & playing with her parents.

“Oh so sweet”, Shankhaneel told, “We hv brought breakfast to all of u.”

    Ivy distributed breakfast to them.

Atul naughtily asked Shankhaneel, “How was the night? Anything happened.”

    “No, nothing, a peaceful sleep.”

Ivy came closed to her Ba, told what insults the neighbours had made to her & Shankhaneel & started weeping. Ba told, “Not to worry Ivy, we r all with u, nothing wd happen for a good work, I know u r as pure as water of river Ganga .”

Looking at Atul she told, “Go & bring these medicines according to this prescription.”

Atul took the prescription & went towards city market.

“Lock the door Shankhaneel”, she told. Shankhaneel locked the door of the cabin.

“How u feel me Shankhaneel?” the beautiful lady asked.

What a question? How he wd rep ly.

    “Like my elder sister”

“But I may be 12 years younger than u.”

    “But still I respect u as my elder sister, as u r a woman, u r a mother & I m a bachelor, U hv a lot experience in life.”

“Then can u show me ur respect here in front of Ivy?”

The beautiful was sitting in the bed. Shankhaneel bowed his head to her feet & touched her feet by 2 hands in respect & come up.

The lady pulled him to her breast & kissed at his forehead.

Some tears rolled through the cheeks of Shankhaneel.

“Why this Shankha?” Atul’s wife asked

“This is tears of joys; nobody did this after my mother expired.”

“As I m elder now, I can say something to u Shankhaneel.”

“Yes Ba” Shankhaneel also started addressing her as Ba like Ivy.

    “How u feel Ivy, Shankhaneel”

    Shankhaneel got confused totally,

    “As my younger sister.”

“Why not as a girl friend?”

“She is nearly half of my age, how can she be my girl friend.”

    “Means u don’t like her?”

“No that’s not, I like her very much.”

“Then only age is the barrier?”

    “Yes.”

“If she accepts u, with ur age, wd u going to accept her.”

Shankhaneel hesitated, but made his mind bold, “Yes I wd Ba.”

“Ivy now u tell how u feel Shankhaneel.”

“I love him” she told shortly.

    “Wd u accept him.”

“That wd be my biggest luck if he accepts me, Ba”, she told quickly.

“Now give ur hands to me”, she told looking at both. “Please grasp hands of each other tightly.”

Shankhaneel hesitated, but Ivy grasped his hand tightly. She got her man within Shankhaneel.

Shankhaneel also felt that he has to surrender now fully to Ivy.

And what is bad to surrender to such a beautiful girl?

    THEY CAN’T BEAT US

    by anita19f (06/13/2008 - 02:22)

    They r scared of us;

Therefore, they want to keep us

    Suppressed.

     They have made us

    Socially weak;

In fact they cannot beat us.

    What we have not?

We have everything as they have.

    Please come up,

    Please rise up.

    We must progress being united.

    We wd beat them

    Surely we wd.

    We wd finish the underestimation

That made on us so many years.

    We wd certainly win,

    They can’t beat us

    Any more.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

    by anita19f (06/10/2008 - 19:02)

(I am from a very poor family, I have passed only 12th standard, but I become confused by seeing the glamour world & want to become all, but for me I can’t do so, Later I realise what I m I have to make me as I am, not trying to become all glamorous girls.)

    Several roads of life

    Several ways of charms

    What I need to be,

    What I wd choose,

    I can’t decide

To be or not to be.

    While I see beautiful girls

    Walking in an alluring dais

I think to be a beauty queen

    & be a model of a magazine

    But would it happy me?

    I don’t ascertain

To be or not to be.

    While I see a girl

    With a dress of military

    So smart in look

I like to be like her

But would be that good for me?

    I can’t say

To be or not to be.

    In the height of sky

    After a tour from

    Delhi to Kolkata

    While the pilot,

    The lady, announced

I Mrs Kiran thanks u all

    To reach the destination

    In safe & sound,

I liked to be a pilot

But would I should be so?

    I don’t know –

To be or not to be.

    Looking a cinema

    Of Mallika Sarawat

    Or Karina or Rani

I feel it wd be better to be

    An actress

Who wd be loved by all,

& wd be praised by the people

But when I wd write my poems then?

    I was totally confused myself

    What

To be or not to be.

Then I come to my own world

A poor girl who is only 12th pass

Should not fly her dreams so high

Better to write poems, stories & articles

    For the ordinary

    People, children & women

    To help them,

    To make them

    Extra-ordinary.

    They want to finish us;
They want to take everything from us,
    Even the flesh of our body;
    They want to play with our emotion;
    They want to sale us in the market;
We r priced as per our skin,
As per our age & freshness,
    As per our colour & face;
    They feel we have no feelings;
They r hungry only with our body,
Ah! How long they wd take this for granted?

    DRAUPADI

    by anita19f (06/08/2008 - 04:24)

(In Mahabharat Krishna saved Draupadi while Kaurava tried to remove her dresses, Today nobody comes to save the women like that. Some days before I hv read a news that an woman was picked up from in front of her house by some miscreants coming in a truck & misdeeds were done on her in the running truck itself. Who will protect today's Draupadi from the miscreants? We should protest vehementally such cowardish acts of miscreants)

As soon as she was picked up,
& brought to the carrier of the truck,
    She knew
    She became a today's Draupadi.
And they were the Kaurava members.
    She tried to escape,
    But she could not move
    As her hands & legs,
    Were tightly gripped by them.
Helpless she prayed to God silently,
But no God came from heaven
    To save her,
    To stop them from
Removing her clothes one by one.
    Then another black page
    Created in the history
    Time noted it silently:
    The newly married woman
    Lost her sanctity.
While their nasty play was over,
    While she became unconscious,
    They left her at roadside
    With her clothes aside.
    After sometime,
    She got conscious,
    Came to her house,
    Washed her body,
    But how she wd
    Wash her mind
    How she wd stop
    The society
    From looking her
    Differently.
    "No, no, no
    Nothing to be worried,
    O' my today's Drauoadi,
    Today we should not bear
    Everything silently,
    Please come up,
    Please rise up,
    We should fight for
    Our position,
    Our values,
    Our dignity.
    We should get justice,
    & they should get punishment"

MA, I WOULD COME BACK SOON

    Ma,
    From this jungle of
    Man & machines,
    From the madness of life,
    Whenever I remember u
I feel ur touch in my heart,
I feel every time u r with me
Like we were in our village
    With my sisters & brothers
    & I remember
    How we searched wood
    In the jungle of hill,
    & searched fruits
    In the wild trees;
    I remember
    How
    Many days
    We were sleeping without food,
    How
    Many winter
    We passed
    Beside a fire of wood
    Without warm clothes.
    O’ Ma
    Ur tears I can’t bear
I want to see ur smile
    In ur face
    Everyday, every moment.
I wd come again to u
Then we wd create a new home
    With new dreams & hopes.
    Ma,
    Wait for some days
    I wd come back again
    I wd bring back
    Our days of joy again.

IT IS TIME TO HANG U, DESTROYER

    by anita19f (06/04/2008 - 01:14)

    Source
: In our society when a girl forced to intercourse (or raped), the society hates her for losing her sanctity; the girl sometimes becomes bound to take the path of suicide; but the time has changed now; females r getting up; now in such cases we should punish the destroyer, if required we should hang them instead of hanging us.

    I couldn’t scream

As u blocked my mouth by a cloth,

    I couldn’t fight

As my hands were tied off by ropes,

When u forced me to do those

    What I didn’t like

    & U did on me.

    In fact

    I was weeping then

    & u were laughing there.

U were taking the raw enjoyment,

    But, in fact

U were tearing the petals of a innocent flower,

    Which couldn’t protest u.

U torn out my tender heart,

    I have lost my sanctity.

    But don’t think I wd hang myself;

    Those days r over.

    Now the days has changed,

It is time to punish u,

    O’ destroyer,

It is time to hang u,

    Hang u publicly

In a post of a street light.

    by anita19f (06/03/2008 - 18:23)

In the recent earthquake in , a baby after being buried over 24 hrs, miraculously was rescued unscratched. He is about 3-4 months old, his mother kneeled down, pinned her head & hands on the ground to shield him from the falling concrete & milked him. His mother didn’t make it out.

A rescue worker found his mom’s cell phone in his wrapper. It has a text message left by his mother, “Dear child if u survive please remember Mom loves u forever.”

    THE WORLD

“As a woman, I have no country,

As a woman, my country is the world.”

    -         Virginia Woolf

(With respect to my friends of Dada)

    I haven’t seen them ever,

    But they write to me,

    They r from various countries,

    From other continents too,

They r worried for me all along

    As I m a girl,

    As I m a teenager,

As I m working as a maid to a widower,

Yes they r so closed to me

    Even though I haven’t seen them;

Some owns me like their sister,

Some owns me like their daughter,

Friends, we r all own to each other,

    We r of one family

    We r from one house

    Called

    “The world.”

    DON'T BE SILENT

    by anita19f (06/03/2008 - 17:04)

    “Too many women

    In too many countries

    Speak the same language

    Of silence….”

    -         Anasuya Sengupta

Why we should stay in silence

Is it because that we r women?

    Why should not we utter

If men treat us as an animal?

It is time to tell the truth –

    The story of tortures

It is time to protest the fact

    To change the cultures.

We should speak all the truth

    We have also voice…..

    (I remember,

Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote once –

    “Speak, ur lips r free.

Speak, it is ur own tongue.

Speak, it is ur own body”)

    O, my female friends,

    Rise up soon;

    It is not a sin

    To tell the truth.

    LOVE NEEDS NO LANGUAGE

    by anita19f (06/02/2008 - 17:39)

    When he went office

    She looked him everyday.

    Slowly he too started

    Looking her,

    Waving his hand to her.

    From a few days,

I have not seen him going office,

    & looked her sad.

    She is my neighbour’s maid;

As she is barred to cross their gate

    I couldn’t ask her anything.

One day, the newspaper hawker boy

Gave me a letter of her.

    She wrote:

    “I can’t go from here,

But I know he is in sick,

    Can u see him once.”

    Taking address from the hawker

    I went to his house;

    He had fever,

I admitted him to a hospital.

    After cure,

    He asked me,

    “Who r u?

    Why u helped me?”

    I told him

    The whole story,

    Concluded that

    “The maid had

    Actually sent me to u,

    U should acknowledge her

    Rather than me.”

    From some days,

    I have not seen her;

    I started worrying.

    But one day

    To my surprise

I found both of them in a temple,

    The boy told,

    “Anita, u had united us,

Now we married to each other

    Please give us ur blessings”

    “I m younger than u,

How can I give u blessings?”

    Both of them laughed.

    I hugged both of them.

    I  prayed God

    For their happy life.

    ANGER TO GOD

    by anita19f (06/02/2008 - 17:11)

    Everybody says

    God is everywhere,

But I hv not seen Him anywhere.

    Everybody says

He is kind & wd protect us.

I was waiting to get that.

    But failed to see that.

    Rather I found

    News of horrors & terrors

    On women

    Everyday, everywhere.

Press print these with big  headings

    For high profits:

    Crimes against women,

    Dowry harrassment,

    Desertion & ill-treatment to women,

    Wife-beating, wife-burning…

    Ah, men frequently forget humanity

    While treating us women.

    God created us as female

    Some treated us as animal.

    People says God is everywhere

    & I see we get ill-treatment everywhere.

    So,

    Please give me a place,

    If u can,

    Where God is not there.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    TO MY BLOG READERS

    by anita19f (06/02/2008 - 15:48)

My female blog readers r repeatedly asking me to start a blog on women. But as my blogs r equally read by males & females, therefore, I was hesitating to start a blog specially for my female friends. But the recent some news on torturing on women, makes me to start this blog. I beg excuses to my male friends not to take it otherwise, i m not generalising that all males r bad or all females r good. Being a female & working with both males & females, i know very well the both sides. I wd only write for females' rights & against the tortures on females. Moreover I wd write poems, articles etc that wd be beneficial & interesting to women. I request all my friends to accept my this blog also like my earlier ones. Even though this is mainly for females I welcome my male friends too to read this blog for knowledge & to know the problems faced by females in society.

While I was thinking on women's rights, an interesting poem I have received. I put it below:

The Rights Man Gives to Woman:
The right to wake when he's asleep
The right to watch, the right to weep.
The right to rise and light the fire,
The right to keep her needle by her,
The right his ancient clothes to mend,
The right his simplest want t'attend,
The right to pleasantly construe him,
The right to bring his slippers to him,
The right to let him make the laws,
The right to find no fault for cause,
The right to comfort his distress,
The right to wear her same old dress,
The right his every joy to double,
The right to save him every trouble,
The right to clothe and teach the young,
The perfect right to hold her tongue.

    [S. X., women's magazine contributor. The Revolution (April 23, 1868). . . .]

The most of the above r still true in our villages & some even in our towns & cities. Therefore, it is a social need to wake up our society on women's rights, which wd be a prime aim of this blog.

With lot of love to my blog readers,

    - Anita
